People say music and dance is a universal language which can break any barriers. And that is once again proven when Devdan Show has been visited by the Oddisi Dance Team from India on Friday, June 21, 2013. The Oddisi Dance Team came to Bali on their invitation from the General Consulate India and they spared their time between their schedules to visit Bali Nusa Dua Theatre.
Oddisi Dance Team came to Bali Nusa Dua Theatre in a full form which is composed of Ms. Supriya Nayak (Oddisi Dancer), Mr. Prasant Kumar (Vocal), Mr. Prafulla Mangaraj (Mardala), Mr. Dhiraj Pandey (Bansuri) and Mr. Rais Ahmed Khan (Sitar). Ms. Supriya happily gave a little workshop to Devdan Dancers by teaching them several basic moves from the Oddisi performance. Although there was a little bit of language barriers between them, but since they are all so passionate about dancing, they could easily understand each other and happily shared their knowledge during the workshop.
On the evening, Mr. Reddi Gaddam, vice consulate India, also joined the Oddisi Dance Team to watch Devdan show. Ms. Supriya couldn’t hide her excitement when she was watching the show as she moves her hands imitating Balinese and Bedhoyo dance during the performance. She also told me how she really enjoyed the whole performance and felt the high energy from it. She especially loved the Saman dance and pick it as her favorite scene of the show.
